the new doc in town

There's a new doctor in the town. Okay, in the planet. I only have watched the first episode, because I'm late at everything and I'm distracted by other shinies.
I don't like the new opening music. Perhaps because I fell in love with theold previous one for no apparent reason. (Violins, I think that's what made it happen. Well, the strings section, you know what I'm talking about. I'm not good at identifying instruments.)
The sequence is okay, but the music sounds wrong to me.
Eleven is still having some Ten moments, but it is a new Doctor, and that's a good thing. Amy seems to be quite awesome, so we'll see what happens next.
(Amy? What happened with Jeff? Yeah, I'm gossiping. Sue me.)
I like the new TARDIS. Spiffy. (I don't know where did I pick up that word, but I'm saying it a lot lately.)
I've had the impression that Moffat was saying to us, during all this first chapter, "this is a new Doctor!! Look at him!! New!!And shiny!!" (And eyebrowless. Yes, I noticed it a lot more than last time. Probably because this time Matt Smith was on screen for more than five minutes. Perhaps time will help me with this.) It's not a bad thing, just... weird. It's like we're being constanty told that Eleven will be so much different than Nine and Ten. The foreshadowing has been done the same way than before, so some things won't change. Or, at least, not yet. Again, time will tell.
New TARDIS was like a response to last season's finale: Yes, the toys are broken. No problem! We can make new. Yes, some toys are gone. It's ok! I have mine right here and I'll let you play with them.
I have enjoyed the chapter, alot. It was fun, it was crazy, it was all over the place (in a good way), and rushed (also in a good way), and the Doctor is still the biggest Gary Stu one can think of (... Perhaps), and it even had eye candy!
The homage to the previous encarnations of the Doctor was good, but we've seen it done better. Personal opinion, yes.
And the preview of things to come is great. Not sure if I like the idea of having the angel statues (forgot the name? sorry?) again lurking on my screen. Not gonna blink next week, methinks.
I did like seeing the Daleks making a return. I know, obvious, because this is Doctor Who and Daleks are one of his most known enemies. (They also happen to be extremely cuddly.) Conclusion: I ♥ me some Daleks screaming about our inminent extermination.
Fresh start: new Doctor, new companion, new TARDIS. Okay, old enemies. But, also new! And a planned story arc for the whole season!
Do want Raggedy Doctor? You can has nao!.

Date: 2010-04-18 09:15 pm (UTC)Perhaps I'm still thinking about Ten too much and I can't get how Eleven is, or perhaps I need to watch more episodes because in this one he is not set in stone yet.
I mean, it is, after all, his official introduction. We hear "I'm the Doctor" at least four times. (Ok, perhaps three. No, I didn't count them. I'm sure someone somewhere made a drinking game about this.) So still having a bit of Ten and not enough of Eleven is not a really bad thing.
(I saw the Power Randeks in some screenshot! Episode 3, right? *plots*)
