new iGoogle page
Jul. 22nd, 2009 09:07 amiGoogle receives new functionalities and looks (sort of).
It's all fine and dandy until you want to hide that new column. I manage my iGoogle tabs in a way that allows me to have everything I want in the screen. Every tab has its functionality and theme. And that's for a reason. I don't need a list of all my tabs and all its gadgets.
I'm sure some people will find it useful. But for those who doesn't really need it, what about some way to hide that new lateral menu? I'd like to regain that width, it makes my iGoogle!working area less clustered, and I prefer it that way.
I'm saying it because I can't find a way to hide that column. Even in the tour page with detail information about the nav page there's nothing about it.
If there is a way to hide that nav, can you please point me out where is it? If there is no way to hide it, then I guess I'll have to learn to appreciate it.
These kind of forced changes are ugly, specially because google has the technology and knowledge (hello, gwt) to allow the option of minimizing a lateral navigation column.
Way to go, google.
edit: after reading this, and all the complaints (and realizing that, again, this was launched almost nine months ago and we get it nowm, go Spain), I'm pretty sure they won't rollback to a previous version.
I'm surprised they haven't yet implement an option to minimize the sidebar. I'm not even talking about toggling on the new or old version of iGoogle (I don't think that would be productive or easy to implement) or allowing an alternate version that emulates the old tab system. So that leads me to think they won't make this change until a new version of iGoogle is roll out or... well, they won't make this change period.
